The Best Boat Features for Families

Published on July 7, 2023

Sea Ray boats are designed with sporty families in mind and have a host of features that make a day on the water comfortable and fun.

Shade on Demand

While most families love to soak up the sun, it’s a good idea to get a respite now and then, and on really hot summer days, having shade is critical. That’s why all Sea Ray boats have a way to relax in the shade. Sea Ray’s SPXSDX and most SLX models have Bimini top options that can be deployed or taken down quickly. They also have available watersports towers with built-in Bimini tops for shade. Larger models like the  SLX 350 and SLX 400 and their outboard counterparts have hard tops that also have available electronically-retractable SureShade awnings for the back of the boat and bow shade options for coverage up front.

Head Compartments

Anyone who has ever taken a road trip with children knows one of the first things you’ll hear is, “I have to go the to the bathroom!” And it’s the same on a boat. Fortunately, all but Sea Ray’s most compact models (SPX 190, SPX 210, and SDX 250) have an available Porta-Potti or VacuFlush head. Most SLX models and Sundancer cabin cruisers have heads as a standard feature.

Submersible Swim Platforms

One of the best reasons to choose a Sea Ray powered by MerCruiser sterndrives is the massive swim platforms that all have submersible swim step options. On smaller models, it manually flips down in the water to allow swimmers to sit submerged. On larger models, an electronic version is available. This feature also makes it easy to reboard after swimming, including four-legged friends, making these Sea Ray models dog-friendly boats.

Watersports Towers, Pylons, and Tow Points

All Sea Ray deck boats, sport boats and bowriders have standard ski tow eyes or pylons depending on their method of power. To take the watersports fun to the next level, there’s the option of adding watersports towers that range from the forward-swept, powder-coated black towers on SPX models that can be easily lowered for storage or ducking under a low bridge by loosening two hand-tightened knobs. More elaborate watersports towers are available for SDX deck boat models that have white or black Bimini tops and can also be manually lowered for storage. Sea Ray SLX 260 and SLX 280 models have optional electronically-lowerable watersports towers with Bimini tops and SLX 310 models have an available ski tow-equipped hard top.

Foot-Friendly Flooring

The first thing most boaters do when boarding a boat is to kick off their shoes and to make sure that experience is foot-friendly, there are premium flooring options available for all Sea Rays. For decades, carpeting was the go-to material for optional flooring but it was prone to retain stains and tended to stay soggy long after the kids were done swimming. Instead, all Sea Ray boats have the option to add snap-in, padded Infinity woven vinyl, which looks great, dries quickly and is easy to clean. Another popular option is SeaDek flooring that’s even softer on the feet and adds a custom look.
